STATEMENT OF C. J. DOYLE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CATHOLIC ACTION LEAGUE OF MASSACHUSETTS CONCERNING THE SCANDAL OF MEMBERS OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS VOTING AGAINST TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE

"Catholics in public life are called to defend the sanctity and dignity of innocent human life, the integrity and indissolubility
of marriage, and the necessity of an objective moral order founded upon Divine and natural law. We cannot successfully promote these Catholic principles in society unless they are first fully vindicated within our own Catholic institutions. Although we may not always prevail in politics, legislation, and public policy, we can and we must, at a minimum, ensure honesty, consistency, and fidelity within our own ranks. The deplorable scandal and the dreadful disgrace of members of Catholic organizations, such as the Knights of Columbus and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, voting to destroy innocent human life or to deform the bedrock institution of marriage can no longer be tolerated."

"The Knights of Columbus should not be permitted to shift responsibility in this matter to the Catholic hierarchy. For some time now, the leadership of the Knights of Columbus have avoided their duty by claiming that only the bishops can determine who is or who is not a 'practical Catholic in communion with the Holy See,' one of the primary requirements for membership. If the Knights are reluctant, however, to judge the Catholicity of their own members, they should at least be willing to take cognizance of the explicit public voting records of prominent knights who hold elective office, and who work against the Church, Catholic morality, and the professed principles of the Knights of Columbus. Section 162.7 of the Charter, Constitution, and Laws of the Knights of Columbus provides that a member may be expelled for 'giving scandal, scandalous conduct or practice unbecoming a member of this Order.' What could possibly be more scandalous or unbecoming than a member of the Knights of Columbus voting to betray the Faith of his baptism or oppose the fundamental moral teachings of his Church?"

"It is long past time for the Knights of Columbus to jettison these traitors, quislings, and apostates. No one will take the Catholic Church seriously so long as it allows such perfidy and corruption to defile its institutions. Please contact both the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus and the State Council of Massachusetts and demand they expel these collaborators with the culture of death."

the allowance of this type of behavior is why I never joined. years ago, they didn't get rid of Kennedy.

I know Fr. Paul Marx and Fr. Matthew Habiger both resigned from K of C for the same reason.
